Alexandria man arrested for allegedly shooting a man, making it look like a suicide

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5 ) – An Alexandria man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man and then trying to make it look like a suicide.

According to Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, they have arrested Joshua Sanders, 29, of Alexandria, for allegedly shooting a man and then trying to stage the crime to look like a suicide.

Deputies from the Tioga Sub-Station responded to a call about a possible suicide in Tioga on August 27. Deputies said it did look as though, 28-year-old Cong Thanh Nguyen of Tioga had shot himself in his bedroom. However, due to further investigation and processing of the crime scene, detectives said it was determined that there was an altercation with Sanders and Nguyen suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested Sanders of Alexandria and charged him with obstruction of justice and criminal conspiracy, but on Thursday, they upgraded that charge to manslaughter and conviction felon in possession of a firearm.

Sanders is currently at Rapides Parish Detention Center. Bond has not been set.

The investigation is ongoing.
