VPSO arrest a man for allegedly attacking a man with a machete

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -Deputies have arrested a man for allegedly attacking his roommate with a machete.

According to Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, they have arrested 23-year-old Modavis Coats of Leesville for allegedly attacking one of his roommate with a machete.

VPSO said they were dispatched to Jeane Chapel Trailer Park on September 7, in regards to a disturbance.

VPSO met with a man that said, he and Coats were in an altercation.  The victim said Coats had brandished and threatened him with a machete, before inflicting a significant injury to the victim's hand.

VPSO said the victim and witnesses reported seeing Coats flee the scene on foot after the altercation.

Deputies and detectives canvassed the area. Coats was located and taken into custody almost an hour after the alleged incident. 

Coats was transported to the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office jail. He is being charged with one count of aggravated second degree battery. 

No bond has been set at this time.

 The victim was treated and released from the hospital, but VPSO said the man will have to receive additional treatment for the injury.
