WINN PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Construction project to begin on the Carter Crossing Bridges in Winn Parish.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises the public that on September 9, 2013, construction will begin on the Carter Crossing Bridges over Dugdemona River and Dugdemona River Relief in Winn Parish. This work will begin 250' south of the Carter Crossing Bridge over the Dugdemona River and proceed 1340' north.

The bridge will close on September 23, and will remain closed for the duration of the project. The contractor will be required to maintain local access to both sides of the project. Thru traffic will be not maintained but access to either end of the project is available via LA 501 and LA 505.

The DOTD said the intent of this project is to remove the existing timber bridge over the Dugdemona River and replace it with a six span quad beam girder bridge with 24' clear roadway, and remove the existing pipe crossing over the Dugdemona River Relief and replace it with two 7'X7' box culverts. The roadway will be aggregate roadway surfacing. Associated work includes ditch realignment and replacing a cross drain pipe. The project was awarded to WL Bass Construction Inc. in the amount of $1,097,015.50. The work associated with this project should take approximately nine months to complete.
