Tropical Storm Humberto is located about 95 miles southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands. Movement is toward the west at 13 mph and the maximum sustained wind is near 50 mph. Humberto is expected to turn toward the northwest Tuesday and strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday. If this occurs, then Humberto will become the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic Basin season.
The remnants of former Tropical Storm Gabrielle are still being monitored. This elongated area of low pressure is located about 400 miles south-southwest of Bermuda. This systemm is under considerable shear and redevelopment will be slow, if it occurs at all.
Some of our computer models forecast an area of low pressure will develop over the Bay of Campeche later this week.
Elsewhere, tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Wednesday.
