ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) –To commemorate first responders who lost their lives on 9/11,  Lifeshare Blood Center is sponsoring a day of giving.

This is the second year the SWAT Challenge will be held to raise awareness of the importance of giving blood.

According to a release from Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, the SWAT or Special Response Teams are teams through Cenla and the state that challenge each other to donate.

"Donating blood is so important to people every day.  It is especially important when there is a crisis or natural disaster such as the terrorist attacks in 2001 or Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We want to remember our fallen officers and firefighters in supporting this blood drive" said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.

To participate visit the local Lifeshare and tell them you want to be a part of the "Swat Challenge Blood Drive".
