Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) After nine months of preparation, seven crew members from the Monroe Highway Sonic in Pineville are headed to San Diego for the 2013 Dr. Pepper Sonic games.

"It is an intense competition They give you five minutes to look around. You can not touch anything. Then they give you five minutes to cook. Then they blow a whistle and it starts. It is 21 orders in 20 minutes and you have to do everything by the book. There are over 60 judges in the inside and outside of the building," said Lance Moresi.

The Monroe Highway Sonic will compete against eleven teams from across the US.

Sonic crew members we spoke with say they are prepared for their west coast trip to compete against the best.

"We do practice runs since we have made it to the top 12. We have met at 5 o'clock every Sunday morning. and we just pretend like we are really in the games," said Jake McFarlen.

"Everybody wants to do well. Everybody wants to well you know. Nobody means any harm. This is our first year so we kind of have a little lack in that. Everybody is wishing everybody to do well but at the same time we want this goal and we want to win also, so that is what we are looking forward to."

With the Sonic games set to to start on Sunday September 15th, managers at the Monroe Highway Sonic say the upcoming trip to San Diego will be the trip of a lifetime.

"We are going to be exhausted by the time it is all said and done. The team is very close and they have worked extremely hard to get this far. It is going to be something they will never forget. It is a life changing event. They are really excited about it," said Lance Moresi.

The annual Dr. Pepper Sonic Games has hosted Sonic crews from across the country for the last 20 years.
