Turkey Creek man arrested for metal theft

CHENEYVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A Turkey Creek man has been arrested for allegedly stealing metal theft.

According to Rapides Sheriff's Deputies Office, they have arrested  Joseph Messer, 23, for stealing metal.

First deputies were dispatched to Cheneyville in reference to a possible theft of metal. Then detectives were called in. RPSO Detectives have had an ongoing investigation with metal theft in the area for some time now. 

A complainant reported a man visited his home about metal on his property.  He wanted to know if it was for sale and the complainant said no.  Later, the complainant discovered the metal had been taken. The parts taken were said to consist of sprockets and rollers valued at approximately $1,200. 

Detectives said they located the stolen metal in a scrap yard in Avoyelles Parish. Through further investigation, Messer was identified as the primary suspect. 

He was taken into custody at his residence in Turkey Creek by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office. He was later transported to Rapides Parish Detention Center.

Messer is charged with theft of copper and metals over $1,000. His bond is set at $10,000.

The EPSO also had a detainer on Messer for narcotics charges from an arrest through Rapides Parish.

The investigation is ongoing.
