Mom-preneurs

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The face of business is changing. In Central Louisiana, Mom Entrepreneurs are building a business while also raising a family.

For Robyn Schwartz it began as a dream between friends while training for a triathlon.

"It was just something to get your mind off of the pain that you're going through as you're training for these long endurance races so just kind of talking about sweets and what you wanted to eat when you were finished working out." Said Schwartz.

That dream became part of a community of moms and dads starting their own businesses.

"We see a lot of people that are leaving corporate jobs looking for something more fulfilling and small businesses are the answer to a lot of those folks. It's not the answer for everyone but it's the answer for a lot of people and they have small children and wives and husbands and all of them are in the business, if you're in business it's a family business." Said Gary Perkins of CLEDA.

Schwartz is one of a number of Mom-Preneurs, moms who are raising children while also building a business.

"I never thought I would take that huge leap of leaving corporate America to own my own business not knowing if there was going to be a paycheck or not." Said Schwartz.

For Schwartz, like many moms who are finding their calling in small business, the process can be as challenging as it can be rewarding.

"It's not something that you open up a textbooks and say, oh this is how you run a business, it takes a lot of trial and error, it's definitely something that you're completely married to. I don't ever want to miss out on things with my kids, so I have the flexibility to leave and enjoy watching them do things and then come back and finish up what you need to do." Said Schwartz.
