Public invited to learn "untold story" of Natchitoches

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Natchitoches Genealogical, Historical Association welcomes public to upcoming meeting.

The Natchitoches Genealogical and Historical Association will hold its regular meeting September 24, at 7 p.m. at the Natchitoches Arts Center, 716 Second Street. The NGHA said the topic for the evening will be "The untold Story of Louisiana Purchase's Oldest Colony."

Guest speakers Justin French, Manager, Rhonda Gauthier, Curator, and Tommy Adkins, Interpretive Ranger, from Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site Museum will discuss the establishment of Poste Des Natchitoches from 1714 – 1744. The public is welcome to attend and learn how the oldest colony in the Louisiana Purchase survived economic disasters, attack, disease and famine to become the third largest cattle exporter in French Louisiana.
