NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State volleyball team makes its home debut Tuesday night against Southern Mississippi at seven o'clock at Prather Coliseum.

The Lady Demons (2-8) trail the Golden Eagles (9-2) 4-12 in the non-conference rivalry, last meeting during the 2012 season at the UT Arlington Invitational where NSU came out on top of a 3-0 shutout.

Freshman Ashley Elrod recorded two double-doubles at the Baylor Invitational this past weekend to aid in NSU's 1-2 performance that included a 3-0 take-down of Appalachian State. Elrod's 15 kills against the Mountaineers marked a career-high for the Arlington, Texas, native.

The 5-11 outside hitter sits in seventh in the Southland Conference in service aces per set (0.38) and leads the Lady Demons with 12 while putting up 11 blocks and digging up 73 attacks.

Redshirt sophomore Caiti O'Connell leads the Lady Demons attack with 93 kills (2.91 k/s), good enough for eighth in the SLC as libero Keelie Arneson stands at fourth in digs with 4.62 per set. Arneson earned All-Tournament team honors at the Baylor Invitational after putting up 5.90 digs per set on the weekend.

Setters Emily Johnson and Natalie Jaeger have made appearances in all 32 sets this season, racking up 130 and 140 assists, respectively.

Southern Mississippi dropped just one set at the McNeese State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, collecting wins over Prairie View-A&M, McNeese, Louisiana-Monroe and UT-Pan American.

Sophomore Quincy Hayward leads the Golden Eagles and sits third in Conference USA stats with 4.29 kills per set while putting up 13 blocks. Kristen Fleming, a junior setter, puts up 11.71 assists per set, a C-USA lead at the moment, while scooping up 84 digs as libero Mary Pursell sits fourth in the league with 159 digs (4.68 d/s).

The Lady Demons begin Southland Conference action on Thursday as they host Southeastern at 7:00 and New Orleans on Saturday at two o'clock at Prather.
