ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) The LSU AgCenter held a "Lunch and Learn" today about the importance of rice production throughout the state.

Rice researcher Doctor Steve Linscombe was today's guest speaker.

Doctor Linscombe told guests about the work being done at the LSU AgCenter that helps produce a higher quality of rice each year.

Linscombe says rice plays a vital agricultural role in Louisiana.

"It is a huge economic agricultural engine for the state and you know in general agriculture is one of the more important industries in this state and it is one of the more important crops in the agricultural realm of things," said Dr. Steve Linscombe.

There are more than 400,000 acres of rice fields throughout the state.
