A GREAT START THIS MORNING

Posted: Updated:

A taste of fall was definitely in the air this Monday morning as folks headed to work and school.

Low temperatures ranged from the lower 50s to the middle 60s. Bellwood dropped all the way down to 53 degrees while Winnfield followed closley with 54 degrees. Natchitoches, Leesville, Atlanta, and Hagewood reported 56 degrees. The daily average is 63 and the record is a chilly 41 set in 1897.

Daytime highs responded well to ample sunshine. Most highs were in the 80s, but Bellwood hit 91 degrees and Simpson, Ville Platte, Esler Airport, Simmesport, and Simpson reported 90 degrees. Natchez, Miss. was the cool spot with 84 degrees. The daily average is 86 and the record is 97 set in 1993.

A surge of moisture is headed back into central Louisiana tonight and this helped a few showers to develop over the southeastern part of the viewing area. Opelousas, Grand Coteau, Simmesport, and Plaucheville all reported small amounts of rain. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will develop Tuesday ahead of a cold front.
