The Tropical Atlantic remains inactive today, although meteorologists continue to monitor a couple of systems.
A tropical wave is interacting with an upper-level low about 850 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. A fairly large area of clouds and convection persists and is actually a bit better organized now than it was this morning. Movement is toward the northwest at 15-20 mph. Marginally favorable conditions are expected to be available to this system, which may earn the designation 96-L if it persists.
Another area of clouds is located off the southeast coast of the U.S. A twist is noted on satellite animation and some computer models forecast the development of a low pressure at the surface. However, even if this occurs, the system should stay offshore.
