LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -  With the partial government shutdown-- it's a time of concern at local businesses around Fort Polk.

"Seeing as though a lot of military spouses have a lot of jobs on post to help balance out their other spouse's paycheck, it will definitely stop people from going out to eat. They'll stay in more to save money which means I'll work less shifts, I'll make less money, because there's no customers in here," said Takemia Kelly, a server at Verona Italian Restaurant.

"Initially we are concerned, but the way I understand it from what I've talked to with some of the rest of the people, that the soldiers are taken care of right now and the more optimistic we feel that the government is going to finally get things squared away," said Dewayne Pybus of Hixson Ford.

"Well we do have a lot of military people that shop here and either they're gonna hold their money, or if the commissary shuts down for a few days we'll expect more business," said Dwayne Griffin, Meat Market Manager at Market Basket.

"Business could potentially pick up. It could make us or it could break us. With everything that's going on at Fort Polk we have all these military families that come from the coast," explained Teresa Wilder, a Market Basket employee.

For many, there is an overall sense of uncertainty.

"My husband's worried that even though we will still be paid it will be late, which will of course--it's going to mess up anybody's bills. His job, his pay is secure but everyone else around us, there's isn't. We are worried--nervous," said Kelly.
