I am watching two systems in the Atlantic Basin on this first day of October.
Tropical Storm Jerry continues about 1300 miles east of Bermuda. There has been very little movement today. The maximum sustained wind is near 45 mph.
Jerry will turn slowly toward the north or northwest Wednesday and will begin to accelerate toward the northeast on Thursday. Little change in strength is expected over the next couple of days.
Disturbance 97-L is creating cloudiness and convection over the western Caribbean Sea. Movement of the system is toward the northwest at near 10 mph. 97-L is expected to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico and has a chance to strengthen later this week. I advise interests along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida to monitor the progress of this system.
