ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) –Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital has a list of up-and-coming groups and events for the month of October. They are listed below:

Tuesday, October 1, MOMMY TALK – a teenage pregnancy education program, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. This fun and informative class is especially designed for the "on the go" teenage expectant mom and her support group/family.  Special emphasis is given to the continuing needs of teenagers such as health and fitness, nutrition, staying in school, resources for pregnant mom, as well as the labor and delivery process. Classes will be taught by a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Childbirth Educator.   The class is free, but pre-registration is required. This class will be held in the Conference Room on the 1st floor of the CHRISTUS Cabrini Women's & Children's Hospital. For more information or to register, please call 866-581-3627.

 

NEW CLASS!  Wednesday, October 2, GOOD MORNING YOGA, 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.   Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.  This class will meet every Wednesday and is sponsored by CHRISTUS ST. NEW CLASS!  Wednesday, October 2, SEATED YOGA AND TAI CHI, 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.  Wear comfortable clothing.  Cost for 6 wk is $60.   This is a great class for those with Parkinson's, Arthritis, Heart Disease, limited mobility, etc.   This class is sponsored by CHRISTUS ST. NEW CLASS!  Wednesday, October 2, TAI CHI CHIH, 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.  This class meets for 6 consecutive weeks so participants can learn the 19 movements and one pose of this form Tai Chi.  This class is sponsored by CHRISTUS ST. Monday, October 7, BEREAVED PARENTS SUPPORT GROUP, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.  This is an on-going support group for parents, grandparents whose child has died.  Bereaved Parents Support Group has trained OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS who are available to the newly grieving parent or grandparent.  This group is sponsored by CHRISTUS ST. FRANCES CABRINI HOSPITAL and meets on the first Monday of every month.  MEETING THIS MONTH IS ON THE SECOND MONDAY BECAUSE OF LABOR DAY!   PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED by calling Becky Watkins, 448-6938.   BROWN BAG SUPPER at 6p.  Check out our Face Book page: Bereaved Parents of Cenla.

Monday, October 14, THE MORNING WIDOWED SUPPORT GROUP, 11 a.m. in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.  This is an ongoing support group for men and women whose spouse has died.  There will be group sharing time and this group has trained OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS who are available to the newly grieving.  THE MORNING WIDOWED SUPPORT GROUP meets on the second Monday of each month and is sponsored by CHRISTUS ST. Wednesday, October 16, CANCER SURVIVORS GROUP – Noon – CHRISTUS Cabrini Women's & Children's Hospital Conference Room. The guest speaker will be dietician speaking on eating well during treatment. For more information, please call Miranda at 318-466-6074.

 

 

Thursday, October 17, THE PARKINSON'S SUPPORT GROUP, 11a-12:30p in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.   This group meets on the third Thursday of each month and is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's and their family/caregiver.  We offer educational handouts and programs plus a chance to share with others. Thursday, October 17, CELEBRATING SURVIVORS - PINK RIBBON CLUB – breast cancer support group, 5:30 p.m. in the CHRISTUS Cabrini Women's Life Center. This is sponsored by the CHRISTUS Cabrini Women's Life Center and The Town Talk. *Mammograms are available for underinsured and uninsured women via Susan G. Komen™ grant.

 

Monday, October 28, THE ALZHEIMER'S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP, 11a-12:30p in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.   This group is designed for Caregivers and/or family members of those diagnosed with Alzheimer/Dementia. We offer educational handouts, sharing time, and lunch is provided by CHRISTUS ST. FRANCES CABRINI HOSPITAL.  THE ALZHEIMER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the fourth Monday of each month.  For more information, please call Becky Watkins, 448-6938.

 

Monday, October 28, THE ALZHEIMER'S ACTIVITY GROUP, 11a-12:30p will be offered for those with Alzheimer's disease.  The meeting is held in the POWER CENTER off MacArthur Dr.  The staff from Emeritus will offer appropriate activities with a fun, hands-on approach.  This group meets on the fourth Monday of the month in conjunction with the Caregivers Support Group. The caregiver must attend the Caregivers Group and stay on campus during this group time. Lunch is provided by CHRISTUS ST. Thursday, October 31 – WIGGING OUT FOR THE RIBBON – 2 p.m. CHRISTUS Cabrini Women's & Children's Hospital – Wear your pink hat, wig, hair bow, etc. to raise breast cancer awareness.
