Young Achiever's Spotlight

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)- When two siblings go head-to-head, it can get competitive under the same roof- but it's all in the name of sportsmanship. News Channel 5's Rachael Penton introduces us to sibling athletes on this edition of Young Achiever's Spotlight.

When it comes to athletics it's a family affair for the Warrens.

"I got into coaching so I've coached out at Buckeye so they kind of grew up in a competitive household," says mom Shelley Warren.

Aly Jo is nine years old. In addition to begin a straight "A" student, she's a softball player and a gymnast, and she recently added another sport to her resume.

"I didn't know if I could do it and then I went to the track and she told me to run and did it. So then I wanted to run," says Aly Jo.

Younger brother Ayden is a track star and a baseball player with excellent grades.

"We could drop the ball really young- when he was a toddler and he could hit the ball," adds Warren.

Aly Jo recently took top honors in the state for junior runners and gymnastics, and Ayden's travel ball team is currently ranked fifth in the nation.

With two young athletes in the family...sibling rivalry is in full force.

"We're always like I beat you I beat you to each other and we kind of brag to each other," adds Aly Jo.

But whether these two young achiever's are racking up wins, acing tests, or simply having fun- mom says they're learning important life lessons.

"I like what athletics teaches kids. Discipline, commitments. So I just want them to be a part of a team when they get older," adds Warren.
