ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KALB  News Channel 5) – Authorities say they have arrested an Opelousas man for alleged indecent behavior with a juvenile.

According to a release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, they have arrested 47- year- old Avery Payne and charged him with indecent behavior with a juvenile.

It was after a student confided with a teacher that Payne allegedly touched her inappropriately that an investigation began on Payne, according to the release. The release also said that Payne admitted to touching the juvenile on more than one occasion.

"Sexual abuse is definitely a problem for our children. Recognizing it, responding appropriately and knowing the right resources can make all the difference for that child and their families. If you suspect that a juvenile is being abused in any kind of way, we urge you to call our office," Captain Megan Vizena of SLPO said.

Payne is being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail.  Bond has not been set at this time.
