COLFAX, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – Authorities say they have arrested a police chief for theft and malfeasance.

According to a release from the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office, they have arrested the Chief of Police for Colfax, Charles Stickell, 43, for theft and malfeasance in office.

GPSO recently received a complaint that led them to investigate. The investigation led to obtaining to a warrant for Stickell's arrest, according to the release.



"Some days ago we got a complaint about some actions that the chief of police was involved in, and we've done an investigation and through the results of the investigations we've obtained warrants for Charles Stickell's arrest." Said Sheriff Steven McCain. 

Colfax police chief Charles Stickell was arrested on charges of theft it came as a surprise to many - the second police chief of the town of Colfax arrested in just the last three years.

On the Colfax police department crest - the words honesty and integrity.

That creed is being challenged for the second time in three years. and malfeasance while in office. charges that shocked residents, many of whom knew the chief personally. 

"It blew me away, I don't believe anything like that. And Like I said I've only been here two years but he's a nice guy, he really is." Said Gina Walker. 

Leading some to question the reasons for his arrest. 

"I don't believe any of it, not only because he's a friend of mine, but also as a previous colleague, I personally believe he's an excellent chief and I think more so, somebody's getting back at him." Said Ronnie Desselle. 

Stickell was appointed chief by the Mayor of Colfax, and now the Town will have to search for a replacement. In the meantime the Sheriff's Office says it will work to keep the town of Colfax safe. 

"We'll support the mayor, the council and the people of Colfax, we'll do whatever we can to help the mayor and to protect the people to make sure that they got some type of law enforcement coverage and the people are getting service." Said McCain.
