Pineville Alcohol Ordinance Update

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On October 19th the citizens of Pineville will vote on whether or not to allow alcohol in city restaurants.

Within Pineville city limits you won't find a drop of alcohol for sale. A new ordinance allowing alcohol in restaurants, like Patti Terrell's, would change that.

"I've heard everybody, they're really interested in it." Said Terrell.

Terrell says many of her customers don't drink and if the law were to pass it would be up to them on whether or not she serves alcohol.

"If it would compromise my business with them, maybe no, that's not something I would look at but, if we did decide to we'd definitely have to put in a couple of TV's where people can come in and sit, and hang out and maybe have a couple of chicken wings." Said Terrell.

Others we spoke with say they are considering all angles of the proposal.

"It's a good thing, but you wouldn't want to go to a restaurant and have a drunk diner being disorderly, but also, keep the local businesses selling alcohol, we can all have a shot at it, and it's extra revenue for the city." Said Anthony Ducote.

All the while bringing with it the possibility of economic growth for the area.

"If the ordinance passes, then it's going to spur economic development, just because I know of national site selectors that have been in our market, in the Pineville market, looking and just kind of on stand by, waiting in the wings to see if this passes." Said Matt Ritchie.
