Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The sky outside Christus St. Frances Cabrini hospital was filled with pink and white today.

166 pink and 33 white balloons were released by Cabrini staff and survivors of breast cancer.

The balloon release was in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

The number of balloons represents 5% of those who have been diagnosed or died because of breast cancer in Louisiana.

"It might not touch you as in your mother or your wife but you know your best friend's wife might have it and you need to know how to help her, and you need to encourage, if you're not a woman, you need to encourage all the women in your life to get that mammogram to get self breast exams, to see your doctor." Said Diane Kitts.

Before the launch, cancer survivors shared their stories of living with breast cancer.
