Tropical Storm Karen continues in the Gulf of Mexico.
The center of Karen is located about 270 miles SSE of Morgan City. Movement is toward the NNW, on a compass heading of 335 degrees, at 7 mph. The maximum sustained wind remains near 50 mph and the central pressure is 29.62 inches.
A tropical storm warning is up from Morgan City to the mouth of the Pearl River. A tropical storm watch is valid for metro New Orleans, Lake Maurepas, Lake Pontchartrain, and the area east of the mouth of the Pearl River to Indian Pass, Florida.
Karen is expected to turn gradually toward the north and may even slow down some more. By Sunday, Karen should begin to turn toward the northeast and accelarate. The center of Karen is expected to be near the coast in the warned area Saturday night.
Little change in strength is expected tonight and Saturday. A slight increase in strength may occur Sunday.
Karen will have little or no effect on central Louisiana weather.
