Still no decision regarding Colfax police chief

Posted:

COLFAX, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - There's still no decision in the town of Colfax regarding the Chief of Police.

"At this time the chief is still suspended without pay pending an investigation because we actually an active investigation through the sheriff's department so the chief is still suspended without pay pending an investigation," said Mayor Gerald Hamilton.

The Colfax town council met Tuesday night. During the meeting, the mayor moved for a private executive session to discuss the situation. Some Colfax residents were anticipating discussion about the council's decision regarding the police chief.

"We're hoping to hear something tonight here at the town meeting and hopefully hear that he's going to be replaced and that they're going to hire some new deputies to go with," said Donald Foster.

Nothing further was discussed in the public session.

We're looking to hear from the sheriff. They'll update us on a daily basis we will be advising our attorney and he will be advising us on what the steps that should be taken at that time.

With the lack of a police chief for Colfax, the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office is helping to patrol the town.

"We appreciate our Parish Sheriff watching over the town while we're having a little problem here but we're hoping that they will come to some conclusion tonight and do something in this case," said Foster.
