BOYCE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) A woman from Sieper, LA was killed in a car crash Tuesday night on Rapides Station Road at Old Boyce Road.  The vehicles involved were driven by 41-year-old Edgar Gonzalez of Alexandria and Dusty Smith, 34 of Boyce, LA.  Louisiana State Police said they believe one of the drivers was impaired.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:15 p.m. involving a 2006 Peterbilt 18 wheeler driven by Gonzalez and a 2001 Dodge pickup, driven Smith.  The Peterbilt was westbound on Rapides Station Road when Gonzalez attempted a U-turn maneuver, at which time his vehicle stalled.  Gonzalez exited his vehicle and was standing near it when the eastbound Dodge collided with the trailer of the Peterbilt.

Gonzalez was not injured.  He was charged with parking in the roadway and having an expired license plate.

Louisiana State Police said Smith was not wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries.  He was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.  His only two passengers, identified as 28-year-old Danielle Stricklin of Sieper, LA and Marcus Gray, 31, of Colfax, LA, were not wearing their seatbelts.  Gray received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.  Stricklin was pronounced dead.  Smith was charged with vehicular homicide, DWI 3rd, driving under suspension, careless operation, and no seatbelt.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that alcohol can impair motor skills and that properly wearing seatbelts can dramatically reduce chances of injury or death. We ask you to take one second to "buckle up!"

Troop E Troopers have investigated 35 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 36 fatalities.
