The Atlantic Basin remains inactive except for a system in the eastern part of the basin.
Disturbance 98-L continues in the Atlantic Ocean about 600 miles WSW of the Cape Verde Islands. Movement is toward the WNW at near 10 mph. This system is characterized by a broad area of surface low pressure that is accompanied by cloudiness and convection. The system continues to show potential for tropical cyclone development. I believe 98-L has about a two-day window of time to develop; afterwards, upper-level winds will become unfavorable this weekend.
Elsewhere, tropical cyclone formation is not expected through the weekend.
