A Very Merry Market

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)- It's only October, but there's a local organization that's thinking ahead to the holidays- and it's all for a good cause. News Channel 5's Rachael Penton gives us a preview of A Very Merry Market.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Alexandria Riverfront Center.

"A Very Merry Market is our signature event that we have every year. This is our tenth year and all the proceeds that we make at this market goes back into the community," says Frances Morrow, President of the Junior League of Alexandria.

A Very Merry Market is put on by the Junior League of Alexandria- a community service organization.

"We partner with non-profit organizations like Volunteers of America, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, and several other non-profit organizations," says India Vermaelen of the Junior League.

You can find everything from jewelry to crafts to gourmet foods at the market- a great opportunity to get ahead of the holiday rush.

"Get your shopping done early for Christmas, for gifts, for birthdays, for anything that you might need," adds Morrow.

You'll spot some local businesses...

"Some of our local merchants that you may see every day come to our market but have totally new inventory," ads Vermaelen.

And some vendors that you won't normally find in Cenla, like the 'Family Matters Boutique' that came all the way from Arkansas to sell at the market.

"Over the years you just get talking to some vendors that you can tell are successful vendors and you always want to know what they're doing so through the few years a couple vendor friends of ours recommended it," says vendor Doug Ahlum.

So whether you're looking for gifts, decorations, or just a very merry time, you can find it this weekend at A Very Merry Market.
