ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – An Alexandria man has been arrested for armed robbery.

Alexandria police said they arrested John E. Dotson Jr, 44, and charged him with one count armed robbery and one count possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to a reported home invasion in the 3800 Block of Brown Street on Sunday around 11:41 p.m. Officers found that a man, Dotson, allegedly forced his way into a residence, armed with a handgun. He also allegedly stole some electronics.

Shortly after the call, officers were given a description and located Dotson in the 3200 Block of Tulane Street. The stolen items were said to be recovered, along with a handgun.

A search incidental to arrest resulted in officers finding suspect drug paraphernalia on Dotson's person. There were no reported injuries.

Dotson has 36 bookings and was out on bond for a burglary charge when this incident occurred, according to APD.

He was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing. No other details have been released.
