RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On Tuesday October 15th at approximately 9 p.m., the Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office was contacted in reference to a subject possibly being a danger to himself or others.

A welfare concern was initiated in an attempt to locate the subject.  Deputies were informed that the subject might be in the Deville area off of Rosier Road.  The subjects vehicle was located and deputies attempted to check on his well being but the subject rammed an RPSO unit and fled the area.  The deputy in the unit wasn't injured.

Additional RPSO deputies were called in to assist in the pursuit of the subject as he fled into LaSalle Parish. The subject was stopped in the Saline swamp area with the combined efforts of the RPSO and Lasalle Parish deputies.  After he was stopped, the subject got out of the vehicle armed with a handgun and turned the gun on himself firing one shot.  Deputies immediately rendered first aid and the subject was transported by helicopter to a local hospital where his condition remains unknown.
