Online Safety for Kids

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Boys and Girls at Alexandria Country Day School got a lesson in being safe online today.

High tech crime expert Monica Ford spoke to students about the dangers of the social media world.

She also taught them how to keep themselves safe from predators who target children using the Internet.

The presentation details the things kids should be mindful of as well as tips for parents to keep their kids safe off and on-line.

"We are going directly to them and showing them, through case examples and certainly with the experience I have, the things that we're seeing that they're doing that have led to potential problems, so these are things that we have seen and these are the ways you can prevent them from happening to you," said Ford.

Some keys to protecting your kids online are to talk to them about Internet safety at an early age. Also, set up parents-only password so Internet activity can be monitored.
