New Home for CLTCC

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Central Louisiana Community Technical College is looking for a new home and multiple developers in Rapides Parish want to be the host.

"Our students get hands on training so we need to be able to have facilities where that can be constructed in a way that replicates what's actually happening in the manufacturing environments out there in the community," said Rodney Ellis.

Which could mean good news for landowners like Oday Lavergne who owns property in Downtown Alexandria.

"If it does come into the city we would all love to have it in Downtown Alexandria because that would mean the beginning of the end of revitalization in Downtown Alexandria," said Oday Lavergne.

Lavergne isn't alone. The England Airpark, Pineville Central Hospital and LSUA are all interested in hosting the community college.

"It would be a real good option for quality of education, quality of the experience, and we're willing to work with them on an agreement that will be positive for everybody," Said Paul Coreil.

The College received around 20 million dollars from the state to help fund the new campus.

After CLTCC releases a request for proposals, the search for a perfect match begins.

"it will be an open and competitive process, based on some criteria that we are currently developing that will allow individuals, organizations, groups to respond to," Said Ellis.

"We are the largest geographic region that has been the most under served without a community college system and now we're well on our way to having that," Said Lavergne.

CLTCC is still working on a request for proposals and hope to have one finished in the next few weeks.

At that point landowners and organizations can see if they meet the College's standards for a new campus and deliver their own proposals.
