RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Cenla Pride and Keep Cenla Beautiful organizations have held the 22nd Annual Phone Book Recycling Collection.

Volunteers from both groups and students from Tioga Junior High participated in the event designed to teach students the importance of recycling.

Organizers said recycling should be a top priority for Cenla residents.

"Kids seem to understand more about the concept and what Cenla Pride is all about is environmental education for not just the kids but for the adults too in the community," said Bettye Jones of Keep Cenla Beautiful.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the schools that collect the most phone book in the five parish competition.

If you missed the collection, contact Bettye Jones at (318) 613-1298 for information on how to recycle your phone books.
