GLENMORA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A Glenmora woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing her child.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office said they arrested Matilda Thomas, 25, of Glenmora for cruelty to juveniles charges after faculty at Glenmora Elementary noticed markings on her child.

Deputies and detectives from the Glenmora Substation responded Oct. 10 to Glenmora Elementary in reference to faculty noticing marks on a student. The student stated that the marks were from their mother, according to RPSO.

The Department of Children's and Families Services along with detectives removed the child from Thomas' care. The child was taken in for a medical evaluation.  Thomas was interviewed by detectives on October 11 where probable cause was developed to arrest Thomas.

Thomas was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and later released on a $1500 bond.  The child is still in DCFS care.
