Bike Safety Day

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Boys and girls at Alma Redwine Elementary strapped on their helmets for bike safety.

The Fit Families for Cenla team organized a day to teach the third graders about bike safety.

With obstacle courses and live demonstrations, the kids learned valuable lessons about helmets, hand signals and always being aware of your surroundings.

"It really can save their life, accidents happen, a dog can run out in front of your, a car can run out in front of you, you can easily flip over your handlebars and hit your head so I think wearing a helmet would be my number one piece of advice," said Stacey McMickens.

Fit Families for Cenla says they are working on getting "share the road" signs and license plates for Cenla streets and drivers.
