WALKER, La. (AP) - Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of taking advantage of a 71-year-old relative.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Lori Steele says Christopher Gregus, of Walker, was arrested Oct. 17 and booked with simple battery of the infirm, cruelty to the infirmed, exploitation of the infirmed and theft of medication.

Steele said Gregus remain in jailed Friday on a $100,000 bond.

She says detectives believe Gregus took advantage of the victim Aug. 1 and Oct. 16. Gregus became the victim's primary caregiver after his wife, who was the victim's daughter, died.

Steele says Gregus physically harmed the woman, threatened her, made several unauthorized withdrawals of more than $1,500 from her bank account and took her prescription medication without her permission.

It was unclear whether Gregus has an attorney.
