Scary weather for Halloween

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)- So far it's been a dark and stormy Halloween, but that didn't stop most of the trick-or-treaters here in Cenla from braving the rain to collect candy. News Channel 5's Rachael Penton takes a look at the soggy- but spooky- holiday.

It's Halloween. And, it's been a rainy couple of days across Cenla- including a chance for severe weather- which has thrown a wrench in many of this year's plans.

"Everything got switched around and flip flopped so we made do with the plans that we had to put in place quickly," says Doris Fox, who braved the rain yesterday with her daughter.

Despite the rain the kids were still determined to avoid a candy crisis...

"It's hectic because the kids at school are wired because the plans have been changed and they're excited about getting to go a day early," says mother and teacher Michelle Hay.

...While the adults were just trying to make it through the rainy holiday.

"Right in the rain. Rain jacket, boots, and all," says mother of two Robin Michiels.

"It was really wet. I was surprised to see all the little trick or treaters in their costumes," adds Fox.

"But there's a reason for all the rain. As the season begins to change from fall to winter, we often see a period of severe weather that runs from late October through December."

That's why many parents say they try to be prepared year-round.

"We just do it. It can be 90 degrees one day and 60 the next so we are just prepared as parents," adds Michiels.

So that the scary weather doesn't put a damper on the holiday.

"They didn't care at all as long as they were getting their candy and my daughter sure didn't. She was smiling and going house to house trick-or-treating and was happy as a ladybug," says Fox.
