Buddy Walk

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - There was a special gathering at Louisiana College to raise awareness for those with Down Syndrome.

At the Cenla Down Syndrome Buddy Walk a whole community of friends showed their support.

"As the mom of a five year old who has Down Syndrome, the Buddy Walk is important to me. I want the community to understand Down Syndrome and when they see Asha I want them to know it's ok, and there is nothing to be afraid of Down Syndrome," said Mandy Kenimer.

The Buddy Walk is coordinated by the Cenla Down Syndrome Association

"Sort of a community awareness group to provide support for families, but also to educate our community and to provide support for new families who are just now learning that their child has down syndrome," said Kenimer.

The event helps the organization raise money, but perhaps most importantly, it brings the community together.

The event's organizers say they raised more than $5000 at this year's walk.
