Copiah County Sheriff's Office: Family missing after crash

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Copiah County Sheriff's Department says three members of a Jackson-area family are missing following a car crash.

Copiah Sheriff Harold Jones told WJTV (http://bit.ly/1cze9xe ) that a car crashed in the western part of the county near the town of Carpenter off Shelby Road on Saturday.

Three people - 30-year-old Atira Hughes Smith, her 7-year-old son Jaidon Hill and her husband 34-year-old Laterry Smith - were reported missing.

WLBT reports (http://bit.ly/1e9oDmR ) that the family of Atira Hughes Smith said they last heard from her by phone on Friday.

Information on a missing persons poster from the Copiah County Sheriff's Department said the family may be in need of medical attention.
