Rosepine Firefighters Resign

Posted: Updated:

ROSEPINE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Nine firefighters from the Rosepine Volunteer Fire Department have resigned because of what they call unsuitable firefighting equipment.

"During inspection of our stations our scores fall because we ain't got the proper equipment. It is wore out and it is out of date. So that makes your insurance higher. So we are trying to stand up for the people and the tax payers and get this board to help us get better equipment," said Robert West.

Members of the Vernon Parish Fire Board say they are working to make the necessary changes at the Rosepine Fire Station.

"They walked out on their community and their people. We have firefighters that are on there now. We are looking to see what all is needed and up date as we see fit," said Don Haymon.

Former Deputy Chief West says something had to be done in order to see improvements and to protect the community.

"Well in my eyes, we are standing up for our community, we love our community we do whatever we have been doing it for a long time. We take pride in it. We are doing this to stand up for our community and to show these guys that you know our community needs their help," said Robert West.
