New sidewalk aids Pineville seniors

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La. (News Channel 5) - Things are safer now for folks who live in the Pine Grove Apartments in Pineville.

The ribbon cutting was held today to open the new sidewalk on Pinecrest Drive.

With the help of the AARP, the City of Pineville, and the state bond commission, the seniors at the Pine Grove Apartments can now travel safely between their homes and nearby stores.

"Well after years of trying we finally have accomplished what we needed to as far sidewalks and the street for our residents here that are handicapped and they're in their wheelchairs and walkers. Now have access to Walmart to restaurants any matter of shopping. Before, we couldn't," said Sara Sanders.

Miss Sanders resides in the apartment complex and contacted the AARP initially. Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields cooperation was also an instrumental in the construction.
