ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The renovations are almost complete - and the Manna House will soon be leaving its temporary lower third location.
"We are in the final stages of facilities--and the bathrooms have already been set in place, cooking equipment--new cooking equipment is already there, new refrigerator, new walk-in freezer so we're down to the very last thing so hopefully within a week or two," said Manna House Director John McLure"
There have been major renovations to the original facility.
"What they have in the new one will be quite adequate, quite an improvement from what they had before. "It served people very well for a long time," said Jane Roth, a volunteer.
Some Lower Third residents say they will go to the Lee Street location.
"It's convenient right now, but I ride my bike over to Lee Street with no problem," said Izel Arzard Jr.
But others say the Manna House needs to keep the temporary location open.
"The Manna House is a very good place that we need to stay right here on lower third because it's a better location and it will help a whole lotta people out who aren't successful to get to the Sonya Quarters," said Frederick Newman.
"When they move over there it's gonna be a lot further for me to drive. It's gonna be sad when they do that. It'll make it harder on my pocketbook," said Gregory Bennett.
A second Manna House location is something volunteers say could happen -- with the right support.
"You'd like to expand your ministries and your services if you can--and it takes vision, it takes lot of work, and it takes a lot of money," said McLure.
