OBERLIN, La. (AP) - Bid openings for construction of a new Allen Parish jail have been delayed.
Bids for the $8.5 million project were to be opened early this week, but the date was pushed back until Nov. 12.

Chief Criminal Deputy Ricky Johnson said the latest delay involved issues with electrician contracts, The American Press reports that (http://bit.ly/1gpiWSH ) this is the third time the bid opening has been delayed since September.

Despite the repeated delays, Sheriff Doug Hebert III hopes to break ground for the new 150-bed jail and 120-bed remand facility by the end of the year on a 40-acre site just west of Oberlin.
The new facility will replace the overcrowded and outdated 42-bed jail near the parish courthouse in downtown Oberlin.
