Audit raises questions about fuel use at Kinder PD

Posted: Updated:

KINDER, La. (AP) - State police have been called to investigate the Kinder Police Department after a routine audit found questionable fuel purchases.

The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/1a5pErO ) that the audit shows fuel purchases made by the police department may not have been used for police vehicles.

State police spokesman Sgt. James Anderson confirmed that an investigation is pending, but could not release specific details. He said the Allen Parish District Attorney's Office sought the investigation.

An accountant presenting the town's annual audit to the town council Monday said large increases in fuel consumption over the past several years and a lack of internal controls led to further investigation. That led to evidence that a large amount of fuel purchased by the police department was not used in official town vehicles.
