NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal has asked the FBI to look into alleged brutality by at least one deputy in connection with an incident in September.

One deputy, who has not been identified by the department, was terminated earlier this month after he was videotaped allegedly hitting a handcuffed man. The man was sitting on the ground and leaning against a police car at the time.

The video was made as authorities attempted to clear a street on a Saturday night during the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival and Fair weekend.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Ryan Turner told The Daily Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1776qny ) in a Monday email that Ackal had asked for an FBI investigation.

Two civil suits were filed this month against the department in connection with the incident.
