ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Lions Club of Alexandria is helping out Rugg Elementary's library.
The library budget was cut from one thousand dollars to nothing. In response, the classrooms participated in a penny drive. The Alexandria Lions Club also donated in the form of books as well as 25,000 pennies--or 250 dollars to donate to show support for the library.
"Our school is definitely increasing with students and the more books I have that I can get them into the hands of the students, that's always going to be great for us. Our push is for non-fiction books and for literature, and to help our students be great readers and lifelong lovers of books. So the more books we have the better it is going to be for our students," said Librarian Bridget Vaughn.
Supporting literacy is a world-wide goal for lions club international and the local lions club states that they are happy to help local children in need.
