Alexandria VA Celebrates Veterans Day

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Crowds filled the grounds of the Alexandria VA Medical Center for a Veterans Day parade to honor those that have served our country.

"This is their special day and we want to tell them how special we are and so many want to come out and just say thank you," said Marlene Paul.

Vietnam Veterans we spoke with say it's an event they look forward to each year. 

"You run into some of the old guys that you served with during war or even just in the Army that some old friends and buddies that you served with," said David Benoit. 

"Well I just enjoy coming out and seeing all the people participating in this parade. It is just an appreciation that everybody shows and it is an honor and privilege to be here," said David Rundell.

With multiple military branches station here in CenLa, residents say it's important to always support those who protect our freedom.

"My dad was a WWII veteran and he instilled in us how important it is to be patriotic to stand behind our soldiers to stand behind our community. It's just never ending we pick it up and we hope to give back just a little bit of what they have given us," said Marlene Paul.
