NSU invites children to "Music Morning"

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) –  NSU music education majors host "Music Morning" for children in the community.

On November 16, Natchitoches children are invited to "Music Morning," from 8 a.m.-noon. The event will be hosted by music education majors in Northwestern State University's Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School for Creative and Performing Arts.

The program is free of charge and open to ages 3-11. Children are invited to participate in a variety of music experiences that include singing, music games, instrument demonstrations and a music craft.

"Music changes how we see the world, even at a young age. It opens the door to imagination," said Jeralyn Wilhite of Shreveport, a music education major who is the facilitator of the event.  "Music Morning is an opportunity for the children of the community to come and receive keys to unlocking that door, to see that music is out there and is within their grasp."

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and activities will begin at 8:30 a.m., continuing through noon and concluding with a group sing-a-long and presentation of what the children learned throughout the morning.

"This event has been planned by music education students who are committed to bringing music to Natchitoches children," said Sharon Joy, assistant professor of music education. "It's exciting to see this passion among our students."
