ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A man convicted of a felon has been arrested for possession of a firearm.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office said they arrested Denordo Boyd of Alexandria, after he was allegedly caught with a handgun in his vehicle.  Deputies were patrolling near 14th Street in Alexandria due to several complaints from the community.  They observed an illegally parked vehicle with a male subject exiting the vehicle.

The subject was Boyd. The handgun was spotted in the driver's door of his vehicle, according to RPSO. A convicted felon is not allowed to carry a firearm.

He was booked into the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Detention Center. He was later released on a $5,325 bond.

"This is how our deputies combat gun violence; by getting felons in possession of firearms off the street" said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.

He is charged with improper parking, firearm possession by a convicted felon, and no driver's license.
