The anticipated warming trend arrived in a big way Friday as temperatures soared above seasonal norms by the afternoon.
Morning lows were around twenty degrees higher than Thursday morning's readings. Opelousas was the warm point with a low of 53 degrees; Many was the cool spot with a lo of 41. The long-term daily average is 46 and the record is 23 in 1940.
Afternoon highs climbed into the 70s under a mostly sunny sky. Opelousas hit 77 degrees but Winnfield only managed 71. The 30-year daily average is 70 and the record is 87 in 1903.
Scattered light rain fell during the morning across mainly the northern one-half of the area. Georgetown received 0.20 and Nantachie 0.18 for the top two amounts reported.
The weekend will offer even warmer weather with continued rain chances, especially Sunday and Sunday night.
