Voter Turnout in Cenla

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - With some hot button issues on the ballot voters had some important decisions to make. 

It was a steady day at the polls for the 2013 Louisiana General Election. 

"They're definitely excited about it, the ones that are coming in are definitely excited, they want to see some kind of change, and you know support the candidate of their choice," said Anthony Collins.  

Election commissioners say they weren't seeing the numbers of voters they had hoped for.

"I'm not standing in line but I wish more people were here. I would rather complain about standing in line than walk up and not have anybody here," said Debbie Albritton.  

A big race for the 5th Congressional District seat is driving some of those voters to the polls. 

The term will only last one year, and that has voters wondering if anything can be done with such limited time. 

"It will be almost nothing, and that's been a bit exaggerated on both sides, of what one person can do, except maybe vote his conscience, that's all we can ask somebody to do," said Odis Humphries. 

"I don't think anyone can change Washington D.C. from the way it is right now, the Congress and our Senate, you know just constant battles," said Charles Stepp. 

After a months of TV ads, radio messages and phone calls endorsing either candidate, voters say they've made their pick.

"Oh yes, definitely, it helped me make up my mind who I'm not going to vote for," said Humphries. 

Win or lose, they know every vote matters. 

"We'll see, hopefully, all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing," said Michael Crist.
