The new week of work and school started pleasant enough according to weather watchers.
Morning lows were mostly in the 60s, except Winnfield fell to 59 degrees. Several locations could get no lower than the middle 60s, including Oakdale, DeRidder, Ville Platte, and Pine Prairie. These numbers are well above the daily average of 45 degrees. The record low for the date is a hard freeze of 22 degrees in 1959.
Afternoon highs stayed in the 70s as a weak cold front sneaked across the area. Northern locations, the first to feel the front, only managed the lower 70s. For example, Winnfield reported 72 degrees but Simmesport and Esler Airport hit 79 degrees. The daily average is 68 and the record is 84 in 1942.
Tuesday will be a bit cooler but should be rain-free despite intervals of sunshine and clouds.
